Chrysolophus pictus, or commonly known as the Golden Pheasant is native to mountainous, forested areas in china. Fairly common in aviculture they are a strikingly beautiful bird that will put a splash of color into any aviary. Females of this species are somewhat drab, as their job is to incubate the eggs and raise the chicks. Some color mutations have become quite popular and are also readily available to the Pheasant enthusiast. A good beginner bird, as they are hardy and easy to breed.
